Grind the face and the diameter in the same process.
Vector grinding gives the ability to centerless grind one face with all diameters being ground in a controlled process. It is now possible to grind a head diameter, the underside of the head, and the body diameter of a punch while maintaining a specific length to underside of the head. It has always been a practice to “kiss” the underside of a head in a centerless process but this controlled grind has not been achievable before now.
CRI has captured the horizontal play that exists in cantilever spindles by direct coupling a servo motor to the grinding wheel spindle itself. By adding this additional axis of movement to a machine with CNC dressing and Servo Infeed, the horizontal axis of the grinding wheel spindle can be advanced for dressing and during the actual infeed movement of the slides.
